With a length of 65 km and a width of 18 km, São Miguel is the largest and most diversified island in the Azores.

There is a mild, oceanic-subtropical climate. The high pressure area of the Azores influences the weather throughout Europe. At generally pleasant temperatures in january around 18C and in july around 25C, one can sometimes experience 4 seasons on one day - due to the rapid change of weather conditions. Sao Miguel is also called Ilha Verde because of its lush green vegetation.
